During the 4th FAP National Awards 2024, Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria conferred awards on 576 teachers from private schools across India. The event, organized by the Federation of Private Schools and Associations of Punjab (FAP), took place at Chandigarh University, Gharuan.

The awards celebrated the exceptional contributions of educators who have improved school education and positively impacted students in academics, sports, and extra-curricular activities. The categories included:
- Academic Achievement Award for Principal – 65 recipients
- Academic Achievement Award for School – 65 recipients
- Best Teacher Award – 105 recipients
- Lifetime Achievement Award – 14 recipients
- Lifetime Principal Award – 18 recipients
- MOC Champion Award – 151 recipients
- MOC Champion and Maximum Participation Award – 50 recipients
- MOC Maximum Participation Award – 6 recipients
- Social Achievement Award for Principal – 51 recipients
- Social Achievement Award for School – 51 recipients
Significance of the Awards
Governor Kataria emphasized the importance of private schools in India’s education landscape, noting their role in providing high-quality education and preparing students for the future. Private schools, along with the government sector, contribute significantly to the overall enhancement of education in India.
Education in Punjab
Governor Kataria highlighted that out of 27,701 schools in Punjab, 7,978 are private institutions, accounting for 28%. Currently, 61,47,500 students are enrolled in Punjab’s schools, with 28,64,397 attending private schools. He also mentioned the financial barrier posed by high fees in private institutions and the need to make quality education accessible to all children, regardless of whether they attend a government or private school.
