The Uttar Pradesh Police Constable Recruitment Exam 2024 commenced on August 23 and will continue until August 31, being conducted across 1,174 centres statewide. This re-examination follows the cancellation of the initial exam in February due to a question paper leak.

Background

The original exam, scheduled for February 17 and 18, was called off on February 24 after reports of a question paper leak emerged. The state government has now mandated a re-examination under heightened security to ensure transparency and fairness. In response to the February leak, 178 FIRs were registered across 41 districts, leading to the arrest of around 400 individuals, including two alleged masterminds, Rajiv Nayan Mishra and Ravi Attri.

Security Measures

To maintain the integrity of the exam, the Uttar Pradesh government has implemented rigorous security protocols:

  • Biometric Verification: Candidates will undergo fingerprint and facial recognition checks. In cases where facial recognition is not feasible, the Facial Recognition Image System (FRIS) and Aadhaar card authentication will be used.
  • CCTV Surveillance: Exam centres will be equipped with CCTV cameras, with live feeds monitored in control rooms.
  • Static Magistrates and Security Checks: Static magistrates will be stationed at each centre, complemented by physical frisking, security checks using hand-held metal detectors (HHMD), and deployment of jammers to prevent the use of electronic devices.
  • Additional Supervision: Officers ranging from Deputy Superintendents of Police to Sub Inspectors have been assigned to oversee the exam centres.

National Context

The re-examination comes amidst a backdrop of irregularities in various national exams, including the NEET-UG and UGC-NET, which also faced scrutiny and required re-tests following significant disruptions. The Uttar Pradesh government’s comprehensive approach aims to address and prevent such irregularities, reinforcing the credibility of the recruitment process.
