On August 26, India will celebrate Krishna Janmashtami, marking the birth of Lord Krishna. This auspicious Hindu festival is observed with much enthusiasm, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, where Mathura and Vrindavan hold special significance as key locations in Krishna’s life. Traditionally, children dress up as Radha or Krishna, participating in festivities and performances.

In Uttar Pradesh, 67 districts will enjoy a five-day holiday starting from August 23 due to the ongoing UP Police Constable Recruitment Exam. This break coincides with the Janmashtami celebrations, creating an extended holiday period for school-going children and office workers. With the addition of the weekend, this results in a three-day holiday for many.

August has seen frequent school closures due to heavy rains, Independence Day, and Raksha Bandhan, further extending the holiday period. Now, schools will remain closed from August 23 to August 31 to accommodate the recruitment exam.

The UP Police Constable Recruitment Exam, which has attracted over 4.6 million applicants for 60,244 positions, is being conducted across 1,174 centers. In Lucknow alone, about 81 schools will be closed. The exam is scheduled in two shifts daily: Shift 1 from 10 am to 12 pm and Shift 2 from 3 pm to 5 pm.
