Date: July 19, 2024

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to inform the Supreme Court that a ‘change of exam centre’ is not an option for candidates; instead, they can only request a ‘change of exam city,’ which the agency may still reject. This response is in reply to the court’s inquiry regarding the number of candidates who sought a change in their exam centre for NEET-UG 2024.

Key Details:

  • Supreme Court Hearing: On July 18, the Supreme Court asked the NTA to provide details about candidates who changed exam centres and their results by the next hearing scheduled for July 22, 2024.
  • NTA’s Position:
    • Change of Exam City: Candidates can apply to change their exam city, but the request might be rejected.
    • Applications Received: Approximately 1.25 lakh applications were received for changes or corrections in the exam form. The NTA will detail how many of these were requests for changing the exam city and the results of these candidates.
  • Godhra Incident:
    • Applications: In Godhra, 34 candidates applied for a change in exam city, with 14 applications accepted. Only one of these 14 candidates passed the exam.
    • Exam Centres: There were two centres in Godhra, with 1,860 and 654 students, respectively.
    • Malpractice Allegations: Allegations of manipulation were reported, but the NTA claims prompt action by the district administration thwarted these attempts. Results from the Godhra centres did not show abnormally high scores.
  • Security and Unfair Means:
    • Unfair Means Cases: 153 cases of unfair means were reported, with the Unfair Means (UFM) committee recommending withholding results for 81 candidates and a three-year debarment for 54 candidates.
    • Exam Details: NEET-UG 2024 was conducted on May 5 at 4,750 centres across 571 cities with over 23 lakh students. The results were declared on June 4, followed by allegations of leaks and irregularities.
  • Supreme Court’s Order: The court has instructed the NTA to publish results for all candidates, masked by identity, city-wise and centre-wise on its website by Saturday noon for transparency.

For further updates, candidates and the public are advised to monitor the NTA’s official announcements and the Supreme Court proceedings.
