Italy is quickly gaining recognition as a preferred study destination for Indian students, offering diverse opportunities in fields such as management, architecture, and design. To further promote these opportunities, Uni-Italia, an association dedicated to encouraging higher education in Italy, recently organised an event titled “Milano Meravigliosa” in collaboration with the Italian Embassy and the Italian Embassy Cultural Centre in New Delhi.

Strengthening Educational Ties

At the event, Antonio Bartoli, the Ambassador of Italy to India, underscored the significance of student exchange and mobility in fostering stronger bilateral ties between India and Italy. He highlighted that such exchanges not only enrich educational experiences but also build lasting connections between the two nations.

Andrea Anastasio, director of the Italian Embassy Cultural Centre, emphasized the cultural dialogue facilitated by student mobility, which fosters mutual understanding in an increasingly interconnected world. This sentiment was echoed by Prof Rajendra Kumar, a former alumnus of Politecnico di Milano and director at Lovely Professional University’s School of Architecture and Design. Prof Kumar praised the initiative, noting that it raises awareness about educational opportunities in Milan and strengthens academic collaborations between India and Italy.

Milan: A Hub of Opportunities

Milan stands out as a key destination for Indian students, not only for its renowned academic institutions but also for its vibrant economic and cultural environment. The city hosts around 2,000 multinational branches and ranks among Europe’s top five financial markets. Milan is also a global leader in fashion, design, and business, making it an ideal location for students aspiring to careers in these fields.

Top academic institutions in Milan include:

  • Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi: Consistently ranked among the top fifteen universities worldwide and the top five in Europe for social sciences, economics, finance, business, and management. The university’s presence in India is marked by the SDA Bocconi Asia Center in Mumbai, which offers executive education and postgraduate programs.
  • Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore: Ranked among the world’s top 150 universities, it is particularly renowned for its excellence in the humanities.
  • Università IULM: Specializes in communication, media, tourism, and cultural heritage, and is recognized as a leader in these fields.
  • Istituto Marangoni: Italy’s premier fashion school, highly ranked internationally for art and design, with campuses around the world, including in Mumbai.

With its rich academic heritage, dynamic economy, and cultural vibrancy, Milan offers Indian students an exceptional environment for both learning and professional growth. The ongoing efforts by Uni-Italia and Italian educational institutions to engage with Indian students and alumni are paving the way for stronger academic partnerships and increased student mobility between the two countries.
