The National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced a revised schedule for the final exams of postgraduate students who were admitted in the Academic Year 2021. The Post Graduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) under NMC held a meeting on July 31, 2024, with various universities to discuss the exam timeline.

Revised Exam Deadline

Initially, the PGMEB had directed all universities to complete the final exams by December 31, 2024. However, following representations from several universities requesting an extension, the board has now postponed the deadline. According to the official notification, the final examinations must be completed by January 31, 2025.

This extension provides additional time for universities to wrap up their academic curriculum and conduct the final exams for PG Broad speciality degree students, addressing concerns raised by the institutions about the feasibility of meeting the earlier deadline.

Background and Decision

The decision to extend the deadline reflects the NMC’s responsiveness to the challenges faced by universities in completing the curriculum and ensuring a smooth examination process. The initial public notice from the PGMEB on June 13, 2024, had set the December 31, 2024, deadline, but the subsequent feedback from universities led to a reconsideration and the eventual postponement of the exams.

This extension will likely benefit both the universities and the students, allowing for more thorough preparation and a less rushed academic schedule.
