Delhi University (DU) is officially welcoming its new batch of undergraduate students for the academic year 2024-25 today, August 29. Several DU colleges conducted orientation programmes on Wednesday to help students adjust to their new academic environment and get acquainted with campus life.
Enrollment and Admission Details
- Total Enrollments: Nearly 68,000 students have been enrolled across 1,559 undergraduate programmes offered by 69 colleges and departments.
- Total Admissions Offered: DU admitted 90,644 candidates, which is nearly 19,000 more than the sanctioned capacity of 71,600 seats, to maximize seat utilization.
- Preferred Combinations Secured: Around 27,554 candidates were able to secure their preferred college and course combination this year.
Admission Process and Future Rounds
- Current Status: The admission process is ongoing, with a third round planned to accommodate students through performance-based programmes and supernumerary quotas, including seats reserved for children/widows of armed forces personnel (CW), extra-curricular activities (ECA), and sports.
- Schedule for Third Round: The schedule for the third round will be announced soon.
Challenges and Concerns
- CUET Results Delay: There was a delay in the announcement of the CUET results, which was deferred amid allegations of irregularities. This delay has impacted the academic calendar.
- Concerns: Student organizations and teacher associations have expressed concerns over the shortened vacation time and the increased pressure on teachers to complete the syllabus in a condensed timeframe.
The orientation programmes have been designed to ease students into their new academic journey and familiarize them with college facilities, faculty, and the overall campus environment.
