The Chhattisgarh government has announced an interest-free loan scheme for students from economically weaker families in Naxal-affected districts who wish to pursue higher education in technical and vocational courses. This initiative, called the ‘Chief Minister Higher Education Loan Interest Grant Scheme,’ aims to support students in advancing their education, according to an official from the public relations department.
Under this scheme, students from Naxal-affected districts such as Bastar, Bijapur, Dantewada, Jashpur, and others, can avail of interest-free loans. Meanwhile, eligible students from non-Naxal-affected districts will be able to access loans at a reduced interest rate of 1%.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has instructed officials to conduct a drive to extend the benefits of the scheme to as many youths as possible. The Technical Education Department has been designated as the nodal agency to implement the scheme, which covers loans for 35 technical and vocational courses at diploma, graduate, and postgraduate levels. The maximum loan amount available under the scheme is Rs 4 lakh per student.
To qualify for the scheme, students must be natives of Chhattisgarh with an annual family income of no more than Rs 2 lakh. Additionally, they must be enrolled in a course within Chhattisgarh that is recognized by competent authorities such as AICTE or UGC.
