Three University Students Arrested in Solan for Alleged Ragging Incident

Three students from a private university in the Kandaghat subdivision of Solan district, Himachal Pradesh, were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the alleged ragging of a first-year MBA student, police confirmed.

According to the complaint filed by the victim, Rajat Kumar, the incident occurred on Saturday night when two students came to his hostel room and informed him that seniors were calling for him. When Rajat refused to go, they forcibly took him to another room, where he was pressured to drink alcohol. Upon refusing, he was allegedly beaten and subjected to ragging throughout the night.

The police have registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including voluntarily causing hurt and wrongful confinement, as well as under Section 3 of the Himachal Pradesh Educational Institution (Prohibition of Ragging) Act, 2009. The arrested students, identified as Karan Dogra (19) from Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, Chirag Rana (19) from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, and Divyansh (19) from Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, have been expelled from the university, authorities confirmed.

Further investigations into the case are ongoing, said Solan Superintendent of Police, Gaurav Singh.
