Several educational institutions in India will be closed due to the heavy rainfall expected over the next few days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for several states, including Uttarakhand, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. The forecast predicts moderate to high rainfall, with a risk of flash floods in some areas.
Impact of Heavy Rainfall:
- Pooling of Water: Expect water accumulation in low-lying areas and localized flooding, especially in urban regions.
- Traffic Disruptions: Waterlogged roads may cause significant traffic delays and reduced visibility.
- Damage: Potential minor damage to unpaved roads, vulnerable structures, crops, and landslides.
State-Specific Closures:
- Uttar Pradesh: Schools and colleges in Hathras will remain closed on September 12 and 13. Agra has also announced the closure of all government and private schools from nursery to class 12. Officials have directed schools to reschedule internal assessments or practical exams and notify parents and students of the revised dates.
- Madhya Pradesh: Schools in Bhopal, Gwalior, and Damoh will be closed until September 13. Damoh has also instructed all government and private schools and Anganwadis to stay closed on September 13.
- Uttarakhand: Schools in Chamoli district will remain closed on September 12.
- Other Regions: Schools and colleges in Jalaun, Auraiya, Lalitpur, Jhansi, Aligarh, Eta, and Kannauj have also announced closures.
Weather Update:
The IMD has warned of a depression over Madhya Pradesh and neighboring states. According to an IMD post on X, the depression is centered about 40 km west-southwest of Shahjahanpur (Uttar Pradesh) and 70 km west-northwest of Hardoi (Uttar Pradesh) as of 2330 hrs IST on September 12. The depression is expected to move northeast and weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 12 hours.
The IMD advises residents to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions.
