In a unique move to promote environmental consciousness and good conduct, the Rajasthan government has launched an initiative to award extra marks to school students for planting trees and exhibiting positive behaviour. This program, aimed at students from Classes 6 to 12, seeks to improve both academic performance and social responsibility.
State Education Minister Madan Dilawar announced the plan, which offers students varying marks depending on their grade level. According to the initiative:
- Class 5 students will earn 4 marks for good behaviour and 10 marks for planting trees.
- Class 8 students will receive 6 marks for good conduct and 10 marks for tree planting.
- Class 10 students will be awarded 6 marks for good behaviour and 7 marks for planting trees.
- Class 12 students will earn 7 marks for tree planting and 6 marks for good conduct.
Marks will be awarded not just for academic projects or exams but also based on the students’ efforts in planting trees at school, home, or in public spaces. The initiative includes geotagging to track planted trees, with teachers monitoring the students’ activities.
Minister Dilawar emphasized the environmental importance of this initiative, saying, “School children will help make the state greener by becoming environmental protectors, and the positive impact will be visible.” The program is designed to instill a sense of environmental stewardship while simultaneously fostering good behaviour among students.
By linking academic rewards with both environmental and behavioural contributions, the Rajasthan Education Department hopes to encourage a more holistic approach to learning and personal development.
