Chitra Kumari, a remarkable 20-year-old from Buxar City, Bihar, has proven that with determination and passion, anything is possible. She made headlines by cracking the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) examination on her first attempt and now serves as the Deputy Superintendent of Police at Rajgir Police Academy.
Overcoming Adversity
Chitra hails from a modest family, where her father, Suresh Prasad Malakar, supported the family through farming after losing his bank job in 2008. This significant loss led the family into financial turmoil, forcing them to sell two katthas of land in their hometown of Sohnipatti. The proceeds from the sale were deposited in a bank, and the interest earned was vital in covering educational expenses for Chitra and her two siblings.
Her mother, Rachna Devi, played a pivotal role in Chitra’s education. Despite being a homemaker with only a matriculation education, Rachna instilled discipline in her children by enforcing a strict study routine and limiting distractions, such as mobile phones.
A Supportive Sibling
Chitra’s elder brother, Larvin Kumar, also pursued success in the BPSC and was preparing for civil services. Although he had to return home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the study materials he collected during his time in Delhi were instrumental in helping Chitra prepare for her exams.
Self-Made Success
The family owned only one laptop, which was shared among the three siblings. Understanding their financial constraints, they decided to prepare for the BPSC examination from home, leveraging online courses and resources. Through relentless effort and dedication, Chitra was able to reach her goals without traditional coaching.
She attributes her success primarily to her mother’s unwavering support and guidance, stating that Rachna’s encouragement was vital throughout her journey.
An Inspiration for Many
Chitra Kumari’s story is an inspiring testament to resilience and hard work. She stands as a role model for many young individuals from underprivileged backgrounds, showing that with determination and the right mindset, success is attainable regardless of the circumstances. Her achievement not only highlights her capabilities but also sheds light on the importance of family support in overcoming challenges and achieving one’s dreams.
