Cultural Showcase at Central University of Jammu Highlights Bhartiya Knowledge Systems Under NEP 2020

Jammu, September 25, 2024: The Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (JKAACL), under the guidance of Ms. Harvinder Kaur (JKAS), organized a captivating cultural program on Wednesday at the Central University of Jammu. This event was part of a one-day national seminar focused on NEP 2020 for Viksit Bharat, aimed at integrating Bhartiya Knowledge Systems into education.

The program featured a rich tapestry of performances from local artists, celebrating the diverse cultural heritage of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. It successfully emphasized the pivotal role of culture in education and the necessity of preserving traditional knowledge for the holistic development of the nation.

The evening began with a spiritual Ganesh Vandana performed by Aakash Dogra and his ensemble from Natyaroots. This invocation dance, dedicated to Lord Ganesha, set a divine and graceful tone, captivating the audience with its expressive movements that highlighted the significance of traditional arts in Indian culture.

Following the Ganesh Vandana, Aakash Dogra showcased vibrant dance performances representing traditional Dogri, Kashmiri, and Ladakhi dance forms. His choreography illustrated the diversity of the regions, enchanting the audience with its rhythmic precision and graceful execution. This celebration of diverse dance forms underscored the theme of unity in diversity, aligning with the broader objectives of NEP 2020.

Adding to the cultural richness, Vanshika Jaral mesmerized attendees with her heartfelt rendition of Dogri folk songs, particularly “Lage Kanchi Dile Ge…” Her vocal talent and the emotional resonance of the song stirred a deep sense of cultural pride among the audience, reminding them of the lasting significance of traditional folk music.

The musical ensemble, featuring Sahil Jasotra on Tabla, Rakesh Jasotra on flute, Krishan Kumar on keyboard, Rakesh Kumar on Octopad, and Naman on guitar, created a harmonious blend of classical and contemporary sounds that complemented the cultural presentations. Their collaborative performances highlighted the rich musical traditions of the region.

The event was anchored by Muskaan Gupta, whose vibrant energy and engaging style kept the audience involved throughout, ensuring the event flowed smoothly and maintained an enjoyable atmosphere.

Sanjeev Gupta, the Special Officer for Cultural Activities in Kathua and the program’s in-charge, effectively coordinated the event, ensuring its successful execution.

This cultural showcase aligned with the national seminar’s discussions on integrating Bhartiya knowledge systems into contemporary education as outlined by NEP 2020. The program illustrated how cultural expressions through music, dance, and art can bridge traditional knowledge and modern educational frameworks.

The Chief Guest, Shri B. R. Shankarnand, Akhil Bhartiya Sanghatan Mantri of Bhartiya Shikshan Mandal, praised the cultural program in his address, stating, “Culture is the bedrock of a nation’s identity. Events like these not only showcase the talent of our youth but also keep our traditions alive. The NEP 2020 emphasizes the integration of our ancient knowledge systems into modern education, and today’s cultural program reflects the perfect harmony of these two dimensions. I commend the efforts of JKAACL in organizing this wonderful event.”
