BARREN COUNTY, Ky. (WBKO) – Rayna Rudd, a dedicated educator from Barren County High School, has been named a finalist for the 2024 Kentucky Special Education Teacher of the Year by the Kentucky Council for Exceptional Children.

Rudd, who began teaching at the high school in 2020, serves as a special education teacher for students in grades 10 through 12. Her passion for making a difference in the lives of students with exceptional needs has been the driving force behind her career choice. Reflecting on her journey in special education, Rudd emphasized the unique opportunity the field provides to truly impact students’ lives.

“More than any other area of education, special education teachers have the opportunity to make a difference,” Rudd said in a press release. “Good special education teachers have made a world of difference for people I know, who needed someone to see their child’s potential and fight for others to see it too.”

Rudd’s approach to teaching is rooted in advocacy, as she strives to ensure that each of her students is seen for their individual potential. She believes that, with the right support and guidance, her students can overcome any barriers and succeed both academically and personally.

Christa Middleton, Director of Special Programs for Barren County Schools, praised Rudd for her unwavering commitment to her students. Middleton described her as a strong advocate who constantly pushes for the best outcomes for her students, ensuring they are prepared for life beyond high school.

“Rayna has a vision for her students’ futures and works to equip them with the skills they need to graduate high school as college and career-ready individuals,” Middleton said.

Rudd’s nomination as a finalist for this prestigious award highlights her dedication to providing inclusive and supportive education to her students. Her work has made a significant difference in the lives of many students, and her recognition as a finalist for Kentucky Special Education Teacher of the Year is a well-deserved acknowledgment of her tireless efforts.

The winner will be announced later this year.
