In a significant move aimed at addressing skill gaps in Andhra Pradesh, Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, inaugurated a National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) extension centre at the Andhra Medical Tech Zone (AMTZ) in Visakhapatnam today. The inauguration, which coincided with the 93rd birth anniversary of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, underscores the central government’s commitment to enhancing skill training and expanding employment opportunities for the youth in the region.
The newly inaugurated NSTI extension centre will offer courses in Computer Software Applications (CSA) under the Crafts Instructor Training Scheme (CITS) starting from the 2024-25 academic session. Additionally, the centre will provide short-term computer application courses through the Advanced Vocational Training scheme led by the Directorate General of Training (DGT). These initiatives aim to empower the local workforce by equipping them with advanced technical skills, crucial for employability in today’s competitive landscape.
The NSTI centre, situated within the AMTZ campus, features a computer laboratory and modern classrooms for training. Free hostel accommodations, courtesy of AMTZ, are available for outstation candidates, while mess facilities are provided for all students. This infrastructure is designed to foster an environment conducive to learning and skill development.
During the event, Shri Chaudhary expressed his appreciation for the support extended by the state government and reaffirmed the central government’s commitment to strengthening skill infrastructure under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He emphasized that the new NSTI extension centre will play a pivotal role in offering better opportunities and improving the livelihoods of the youth in Andhra Pradesh.
The event also included a tribute to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on his birth anniversary. Shri Chaudhary highlighted Dr. Kalam’s lasting contributions to science, education, and youth empowerment, noting how his visionary efforts in innovation and skill development have inspired countless individuals across the nation.
Dr. Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director of AMTZ, pledged full support for the seamless operation of the new NSTI extension centre. Ms. Trishaljit Sethi, Director General of Training at the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, was also present to commemorate the occasion.
The launch of the NSTI extension centre addresses a critical gap in Andhra Pradesh’s skill development infrastructure, which was left underserved after the state’s bifurcation. The centre marks a major step in boosting the region’s economic growth by enhancing workforce employability.
