Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, inaugurated a new National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) extension center at the Andhra Medical Tech Zone (AMTZ) campus in Visakhapatnam. This center aims to address the critical skill gaps in Andhra Pradesh and enhance employment prospects for local youth.

Key Features of the Initiative:

  • Government Commitment: The center represents the central government’s commitment to expanding skill development opportunities, improving accessibility for students in the region.
  • Location: Situated at the AMTZ campus, the center is well-placed to cater to the training needs of aspiring professionals in Andhra Pradesh.

Training Programs:

The center will begin offering courses in Computer Software Applications (CSA) under the Crafts Instructor Training Scheme (CITS) starting from the 2024-25 academic session. Additionally, short-term courses on computer applications will be provided under the Advanced Vocational Training scheme, overseen by the Directorate General of Training (DGT).

Infrastructure:

  • Modern Facilities: The center is equipped with state-of-the-art computer labs and furnished classrooms, providing a conducive learning environment.
  • Accommodation: Free hostel facilities are available for outstation candidates, along with mess services, ensuring that all students receive the support they need during their training.

Support from the State:

Shri Chaudhary acknowledged the support of the Andhra Pradesh government in establishing the center and reaffirmed the central government’s commitment to improving the state’s skill infrastructure, particularly under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Historical Context:

The establishment of this extension center is a crucial step in addressing the skill development gap that emerged after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. The undivided state had three NSTIs, all of which remained in Telangana after the split, leaving Andhra Pradesh with limited training infrastructure. This center marks an important milestone in closing that gap.

Tribute to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam:

During the inauguration, Shri Chaudhary paid tribute to the late President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam on his birth anniversary, highlighting Dr. Kalam’s vision for empowering youth through skill development and innovation.

Leadership and Support:

Dr. Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director of AMTZ, pledged full support to ensure the smooth operation of the new extension center. Ms. Trishaljit Sethi, Director General of Training at the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, also attended the event, reflecting the initiative’s importance.

The center is poised to provide vital opportunities for locals and significantly contribute to the region’s economic growth by empowering the youth through skill development.
