Over 16,000 candidates participated in interviews for admission to premier business schools in India, leading to higher cut-offs for the flagship MBA program at 10 newer Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) that conduct admissions collectively. The 10 IIMs involved in the Common Admission Process (CAP) 2024 include Jammu, Kashipur, Nagpur, Raipur, Bodh Gaya, Ranchi, Sambalpur, Sirmaur, Tiruchirappalli, and Udaipur.

IIM-Kashipur, the coordinating institute for CAP 2024, managed the process, which saw a record 16,371 candidates, including 3,800 women, attending the Personal Interview (PI) round. The PI was conducted in a hybrid mode, making it more accessible and cost-effective for aspirants.

Due to factors like higher CAT scores, an increased number of applicants, and improved academic performance, the cut-off scores for CAP 2024 rose compared to last year. For instance, IIM Ranchi’s PGP program cut-off increased from 96 to 98 percentile. The rise in competition and changes in selection criteria, including revised weightages for entrance scores and academic performance, contributed to the higher cut-offs.

The CAP process also introduced greater transparency and candidate-friendly features, such as allowing applicants to correct errors in their applications and view their normalised PI scores. The 10 participating IIMs offer 2,400 seats for the MBA program this year, up from 2,300 in 2023.

The selection process for IIMs involves shortlisting candidates based on CAT scores, followed by a Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI). Final selection considers various factors, including academic records and work experience. While the 10 newer IIMs use a common admission process, the older IIMs conduct admissions individually.
