A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court requesting the postponement of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2024, which is scheduled to be held on August 11, 2024. The plea, filed by Vishal Soren, highlights the challenges faced by applicants due to the delayed assignment of exam cities, which were only allocated on July 31, 2024. The announcement of specific exam venues was made on August 8, 2024, just three days before the exam date, causing significant logistical difficulties for many of the nearly two lakh candidates.

The petitioner argues that the short notice for the venue announcement has left students with limited options for travel, particularly with restricted rail availability and soaring airfares. This situation has made it difficult for many candidates to reach their assigned exam centers, especially those located in distant or inconvenient cities.

Additionally, the petition raises concerns about the NEET PG 2024 exam being conducted in two batches. The petitioners have expressed unease regarding the formula for normalizing scores between the batches, which remains undisclosed. The plea seeks clarity on the normalization process to ensure transparency and eliminate any potential arbitrariness in the evaluation.

In a related development, rumors have surfaced on social media claiming that the NEET PG 2024 question paper has been leaked. However, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has categorically denied these claims, stating that the reports are “false and misleading.” According to a press statement from the NBEMS, the question papers for NEET PG 2024 have not yet been finalized, and any such rumors are being spread by fraudulent agents attempting to exploit students on platforms like Telegram.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the petition tomorrow, August 9, 2024, where the issues raised by the petitioners, including the logistical challenges and the demand for transparency in the normalization process, will be addressed. The outcome of the hearing will determine whether the NEET PG 2024 exam will proceed as planned or be postponed to address the concerns raised by the candidates.
