Time management is a crucial skill for success in competitive exams, and Indian Revenue Service (IRS) Officer Anwesh exemplifies its mastery. Working 15-16 hours daily in his government role, Anwesh pursued his passion for filmmaking, creating the independent film “Kathakaar Ki Diary – The Tale of Ordinary Lives.”
Born in Azimabad, Balasore district of Odisha, Anwesh is a trained Hindustani classical singer who graduated from Bhatkhande Music Institute, Lucknow. In 2013, he cleared the UPSC Civil Service Examination. Before venturing into film direction, Anwesh was involved in numerous music videos and even appeared in the MX Player short film “Society” and Nagesh Kukunoor’s web series “City of Dreams.” He spent two years crafting “Kathakaar Ki Diary,” which delves into the lives of common people and their struggles.
The film features five characters—a cancer patient, a child, a transgender individual, a musician, and a sports coach—whose lives intertwine as they pursue their goals. The story reflects Anwesh’s deep connection to the struggles of ordinary people, which inspired him to create this narrative.
Shot primarily in Western Odisha, Mumbai, and Pune, the film was made on a low budget using local talent and was crowd-funded. Anwesh took on multiple roles as the director, music composer, and actor in the film.
In an interview with Local18, Anwesh expressed his vision of “Kathakaar Ki Diary” as a people’s film, akin to a startup. He hopes to screen it at prestigious festivals like the India International Film Festival (IFFI), Toronto Film Festival, Busan Film Festival, and Berlin Film Festival, alongside private screenings.
