Date: According to Vijay Kiran Anand, Director General of School Education, Uttar Pradesh, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) books will be introduced for classes 1 to 3 in the upcoming academic session of 2023-24. This initiative aims to revise the syllabus and benefit approximately 75 lakh students in the initial phase.

The proposal for introducing NCERT books was originally planned to be implemented in the academic session of 2021-22 but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the implementation is scheduled to begin from 2023-24 for classes 1 to 3, followed by classes 4 and 5 from the academic session of 2024-25.

The implementation plan is structured in three phases:

  1. Phase 1: Classes 1 to 3
  2. Phase 2: Classes 4 and 5
  3. Phase 3: Classes 6 to 8

Teachers will undergo training to familiarize themselves with the new NCERT syllabus, which includes specially designed workbook modules. This training is crucial as NCERT books differ from the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) books currently in use.

The primary aim of this curriculum change is to ensure that Indian students are well-prepared and competitive for exams after class 12, providing them with a well-rounded education aligned with national standards.

This initiative marks a significant step towards standardizing education and improving learning outcomes across primary grades in Uttar Pradesh.
