In a significant relief for 12 Delhi University (DU) colleges funded by the Delhi government, the university has relaxed its restrictions on the appointment of guest faculty. This decision comes in response to the “inordinate delay” in hiring permanent teaching staff at these colleges.

On August 13, the Deputy Registrar (Colleges) issued an order stating that the previous directive, which limited guest faculty appointments to leave vacancies only, will not apply to these 12 colleges. This adjustment aims to address the teaching staff shortages and prioritize the students’ interests.

The earlier directive, issued on August 8, had instructed college and department heads to appoint guest faculty solely to fill in for staff on leave, including maternity, child care, study, sabbatical, medical, or extraordinary leave. The new order lifts these restrictions for the 12 fully funded Delhi government colleges, allowing them to appoint guest faculty as needed until further notice.

This measure is intended to mitigate the impact of staff shortages and ensure that students receive adequate instruction in the interim.
