UGC NET June 2024 Re-Examination: Transition to Online CBT Mode

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that the re-examination for the UGC NET June 2024 cycle will be held online in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) format. This decision comes after the initial offline exam, conducted on June 18, 2024, was canceled due to a paper leak incident. The Ministry of Education revealed on June 19 that the exam’s question paper had been circulated on the dark web two days before the test, prompting the cancellation.

Key Details:

  • New Exam Format: The re-examination will shift to CBT mode, returning to the format used by the NTA in previous years.
  • Exam Dates: The re-exam is scheduled to take place starting August 21, 2024, in two shifts:
    • Morning Shift: 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM
    • Evening Shift: 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM
  • Purpose of the Exam: The UGC NET serves as a qualification test for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professorship, and PhD admissions.

Exam Pattern:

  • Papers: The exam consists of two papers:
    • Paper 1: 50 questions
    • Paper 2: 100 questions
  • Total Marks: 300 marks
  • Duration: 3 hours (180 minutes) for both papers
  • Question Type: Objective-type, multiple-choice questions (MCQs)
  • Negative Marking: There is no negative marking for incorrect answers.

Language Options:

  • The UGC NET 2024 exam will be available in both English and Hindi.

Paper 1 Content:

  • Objective: Assesses teaching and research aptitude.
  • Topics: Includes reasoning ability, mathematics, comprehension, logical reasoning, data interpretation, information and communication technology (ICT), divergent thinking, and general awareness.

Candidates are advised to prepare accordingly for the CBT mode, focusing on familiarizing themselves with the online format and revising the key topics outlined in the syllabus.
