Ajay Grewal, a head constable with the Delhi Police, has been balancing his professional duties with a remarkable passion for educating underprivileged children. By day, he serves in the police force, and by evening, his rooftop becomes a classroom where he offers free tuition to students preparing for government exams. Since 2016, Ajay has been running the Vidyaan Mahadaan Coaching Centre, where he teaches subjects like general knowledge, mathematics, reasoning, English, and Hindi. Over the past eight years, more than 3,000 students have secured government jobs through his dedicated teaching efforts.
Ajay’s schedule is a testament to his commitment: he gets just five hours of sleep daily, spending the rest of his time between his job and his students. His rooftop classes continue late into the night, with sessions running until 3 a.m. To further extend his reach, Ajay launched the Vidyaan Mahadaan YouTube channel, allowing him to teach children from low-income families online as well. He carefully manages his time, ensuring that female students finish their sessions by 10:30 p.m. for their safety.
Ajay’s motivation to teach stems from his own academic journey. He twice reached the interview stage for the UPSC exams, though he ultimately didn’t pass. However, he successfully cleared the Delhi Police Constable exam and has since focused on ensuring that other students don’t face the same barriers he did. His commitment to education is now supported by his former students, who return to help him teach. Ajay’s background in wrestling, which helped him excel in the physical exam for the police force, also speaks to his discipline and determination.
Today, Ajay Grewal’s rooftop coaching center is a beacon of hope for children from low-income families, offering them the resources and support they need to secure their futures.
