In a time when education is increasingly seen as a business, some individuals remain committed to its true purpose—empowering the underprivileged. One such person is Alok Singh, a Physics lecturer from Satna, Madhya Pradesh, who has devoted the last 23 years to providing free coaching to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. His dedication has shaped the futures of over 1,550 students, earning him widespread recognition and admiration.

Singh’s journey as an educator is deeply inspiring, much like the story portrayed in the film ‘Super 30’. Since beginning his free coaching initiative, Singh has made it his mission to help Class 12 students excel in their studies. Originally held in the classrooms of Ramakrishna College, his free coaching sessions have now expanded to Government Higher Secondary School in Satna, where he teaches.

Such is the impact of Singh’s work that students from various schools come in droves to attend his classes. Often, around 500 to 600 students gather in a single hall to receive his guidance, undeterred by the heat or overcrowding. Many of his students have gone on to achieve success in competitive exams such as MPPSC, IIT, and NDA, with some scoring over 90% in their Class 12 board exams. Singh’s influence has left a lasting mark not only on the students he teaches but also on the broader community, highlighting the transformative power of education.

Born in Maroha village, Satna, Singh began his teaching career in 1992. Despite briefly charging fees for his coaching, he soon recommitted to providing free education and has continued to do so ever since. Singh’s work has not only garnered the attention of local authorities, including the district collector, but has also earned him public recognition for his outstanding contributions to society.

Singh credits his inspiration to Omshankar Tripathi, a senior poet from Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, who also devoted 23 years to teaching children for free. Following in his mentor’s footsteps, Singh’s efforts have turned him into a beacon of hope for students striving to overcome economic barriers.

While Singh’s professional life has been dedicated to his students, his personal life is equally inspiring. His son, Aditya, is a Probationary Officer at South Indian Bank in Bengaluru, and his daughter, Amulya Singh, is pursuing music in Indore. Through his work, Singh has not only impacted the lives of his students but also instilled the values of service and dedication in his own family.

Alok Singh’s story serves as a powerful reminder of the profound impact a dedicated educator can have on society, proving that true success lies not in wealth but in uplifting others.
