Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria District Magistrate, Divya Mittal, is currently in the news for her assertive handling of flood-affected areas. During her inspection, she admonished officers for their lack of efficiency. Reports indicate that while covering the flood-affected regions, an officer asked for a break due to the extreme heat. The DM reportedly responded that she was not going to be deterred by the heat. Her strict demeanor reportedly left accompanying departmental officers feeling apprehensive. This uncompromising approach has made headlines across various media outlets.

About Divya Mittal

Divya Mittal, the district magistrate of Deoria, is an alumnus of IIT Delhi and IIM Mumbai. A 2013-batch IAS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, she hails from Rewari district in Haryana. Mittal achieved a significant milestone by clearing the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) civil services examination in her first attempt, securing an All-India Rank (AIR) of 68 in 2012. She initially joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) before transitioning to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 2013.

Known for her developmental initiatives, she has served as the district magistrate in Mirzapur, Sant Kabir Nagar, and other regions. Noteworthy contributions include enhancing water access in Lahuria Dah village in Mirzapur.

Before her IAS career, Divya worked as an investment banker in London. She holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bengaluru and a BTech from IIT Delhi. She also served as the CEO of the UP Rural Roads Development Agency (UPRRDA) in Lucknow after her transfer from Basti district. Her dedication and impactful work have earned her considerable recognition and heartfelt farewells, including a warm send-off with rose petals from local women upon her transfer from Mirzapur.

Divya’s colleagues, including MP Shashank Mani Tripathi, Superintendent of Police Sankalp Sharma, and Chief Development Officer Pratyush Pandey, are also IIT alumni. In an interview with News 18, Divya described this as a mere coincidence.
