Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University has introduced the Research and Innovation Excellence Awards to encourage academic research and innovation. This new initiative, approved in a recent Executive Council meeting led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Poonam Tandon, aims to recognise the contributions of teachers and students in advancing research. The awards are designed to promote high-quality research that meets global standards, fostering a strong research-oriented environment at the university.
The Excellence in Research Award will honour scholars for achievements in areas like publications, patents, and meeting international benchmarks. Under this scheme, winners will receive a cash prize of Rs 21,000. The university will also provide financial assistance for patent filing, referred to as seed funding, to further encourage innovation and intellectual property development.
The awards will be presented annually during the university’s Research Day ceremony, with the budget for the 2024-25 academic year set at Rs 5,06,000. These awards are part of the university’s broader goal to establish a robust research and academic ecosystem that can tackle both national and global challenges.
For students, the awards are divided into five categories based on the Quartile Metric System, which ranks research journals by citation impact. Cash prizes range from Rs 11,000 for Platinum (Q1 journals, top 25%) to Rs 3,000 for Silver (Q4 journals, bottom 25%). Co-authored papers will be recognised with a Bronze award, which includes a certificate.
This initiative is expected to significantly boost the research culture at Gorakhpur University by encouraging excellence and innovation across disciplines.
