Schools were closed in several districts across Rajasthan on Tuesday as relentless heavy rainfall continued to impact the region, leading to the deaths of 22 people in rain-related incidents over the past two days.
Aerial and Field Surveys Conducted
Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma conducted an aerial survey of the rain-affected areas in Dausa, Karauli, and Bharatpur districts. Meanwhile, BJP leader Kirodi Lal Meena, who recently resigned from the Cabinet, participated in a field survey in Dausa, meeting with local officials to assess the situation.
Weather Warnings Issued
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several divisions of Rajasthan. For Tuesday and Wednesday, a red warning was issued for Baran, Bundi, Kota, and Tonk districts, while an orange alert was in place for Bharatpur, Dausa, Dholpur, Jaipur, and Karauli. Additionally, moderate to heavy rain is expected in parts of eastern Rajasthan on Thursday and Friday.
Rainfall Statistics and Affected Areas
According to the Meteorological Centre in Jaipur, Mahua in Dausa recorded the highest rainfall of 163 mm in the 24 hours leading up to 8:30 am on Tuesday. Other significant rainfall figures included Nainwa in Bundi with 161 mm, Jaipur with 152 mm, and Madhorajpura in Jaipur with 136 mm, all categorized as very heavy rainfall.
The heavy rains have caused widespread waterlogging in multiple districts, leading to flood-like conditions, particularly in Karauli district. Overflowing dams and rivers have severely disrupted daily life in these areas.
Rescue Operations and Government Response
Rescue operations are underway, with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rescuing over 100 people from flood-affected areas. The continuous heavy rain has compounded the challenges, causing significant damage and endangering lives.
Chief Minister Sharma had earlier conducted a field inspection in Jaipur on Monday and issued necessary directives to officials to address the situation. On Tuesday, during his aerial survey, Sharma evaluated the extent of the damage in Dausa, Karauli, and Bharatpur districts.
BJP MLA Kirodi Lal Meena also took to social media to share updates from his field visit in Dausa, highlighting the flood-like conditions in eastern Rajasthan. He held a review meeting with subdivision-level officers at the Mahwa Panchayat Samiti auditorium, directing them to take immediate action to assist those affected by the heavy rainfall.
The administration remains on high alert, with officials working to provide all possible assistance to those impacted by the adverse weather conditions.
