Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced a series of transformative changes in the state’s education system to promote holistic student development. Speaking at the annual function of Pinegrove School in Dharampur, Solan, Sukhu outlined the state government’s efforts to enhance educational infrastructure, broaden learning opportunities, and make quality education accessible across Himachal Pradesh.
In the 2024-25 fiscal year, Himachal’s education budget saw a 17% increase over the previous year. This increment supports the government’s vision of preparing students for future challenges by implementing English-medium instruction starting from the first grade in government schools. Additionally, Rajiv Gandhi Government Day Boarding Schools are being established in each assembly constituency to provide students with a well-rounded education, Sukhu noted.
Environmental and Technological Advancements in Education
To foster environmental awareness among students, the government has committed to installing rainwater harvesting systems and grid-connected rooftop solar panels in day-boarding schools. These measures aim to instill a sense of responsibility toward conservation among young learners.
In line with future job market demands, new courses like Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, and Drone Training are being introduced in technical institutions. According to Sukhu, these courses are expected to equip students with skills relevant to emerging industries, providing them with better self-employment and employment opportunities. Employment fairs and campus interviews are also organized across institutions to facilitate job placements for students.
Support for Underprivileged Students and Rural Education
The Chief Minister highlighted the Dr. YS Parmar Vidyarthi Rin Yojana, a Rs 200 crore scheme intended to support meritorious students from underprivileged backgrounds. Under this initiative, financial aid will be provided to eligible students pursuing professional courses both within India and abroad.
Efforts are also underway to expand educational resources at the grassroots level. Sukhu announced the establishment of 493 libraries at Gram Panchayat levels in the first phase, aimed at offering quality reading material to students in rural areas. Additionally, 850 institutions across the state are being developed as centers of educational excellence, aligning with the state’s broader mission of making quality education accessible to students near their homes.
Focus on Educational Excellence in Himachal
Himachal Pradesh’s peaceful and conducive environment for learning has inspired the state government to establish itself as a hub for quality education in India. Sukhu praised Pinegrove School’s commitment to fostering the overall development of its students, setting an example of educational excellence in the state.
The state government’s multipronged approach, encompassing budget increases, infrastructure improvements, and curriculum updates, aims to create an inclusive and dynamic education system. With these initiatives, Himachal Pradesh is making strides toward ensuring that every student in the state receives an education that prepares them for a sustainable and prosperous future.
