Sunil Kumar, a dedicated lecturer from Himachal Pradesh’s Khargat, has been selected to receive the prestigious National Teachers’ Award, as announced by the Ministry of Education. Kumar, who is the only teacher from the state to be honored this year, will receive the award in New Delhi on September 5, celebrated as Teachers’ Day.
Kumar, a chemistry teacher at Government Senior Secondary School in Chamba district, began his career in the Education department in March 2008 and was promoted to chemistry lecturer in 2016. Throughout his career, he has made a significant impact, with 65 of his students being selected at the state level for the Children’s Science Congress.
Despite facing physical challenges due to a disability caused by polio medication when he was just eight months old, Kumar has never let his condition hinder his passion for teaching. Even during summer vacations, he continues to educate students online through his YouTube channel.
“This achievement has brought glory to Chamba and the entire state of Himachal Pradesh. All Himachalis are proud of him,” said Satish Kaushal, the principal of the school.
