WASHINGTON – Dr. Kathryn Wiley, an assistant professor at Howard University School of Education, has been selected as a 2025 Congressional Fellow by the American Educational Research Association (AERA). During her year-long fellowship, Wiley will lend her expertise in education research to Congress, assisting with legislative efforts and shaping public policy.
Wiley aims to influence equitable, evidence-based policies that address key educational issues, including school discipline, climate, funding, and educator preparation. With a focus on racial and social justice, her research emphasizes long-standing educational inequalities and the need to create supportive environments, particularly for Black students.
She has been actively engaged in education justice campaigns, collaborating with youth organizers to combat the school-to-prison pipeline, and working with policy coalitions to craft reforms in school discipline and safety. Wiley’s work has been published in prominent journals like Educational Administration Quarterly, Race Ethnicity and Education, and The Journal of School Leadership, as well as EdWeek.
Now in its eighth year, the AERA Congressional Fellowship Program offers professional development and networking through the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), along with opportunities specifically tailored to education researchers.
This prestigious fellowship will enable Wiley to make a significant impact by supporting legislative efforts that promote equity in education policy.
