In a recent administrative overhaul, IAS officer Rahul Pandey has been appointed as the District Magistrate (DM) of Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, following the transfer of 29 IAS officers, including 13 DMs, by the Uttar Pradesh government. Hathras had recently been in the news due to a tragic stampede during Bhole Baba’s satsang, which resulted in the deaths of 123 people.

Rahul Pandey, a native of Ghaziabad, UP, secured 52nd rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination on his fourth attempt. Before becoming an IAS officer, Pandey had cleared the UPSC exam in 2011, securing a position in the Indian Police Service (IPS). His persistence led him to success in the 2013 UPSC examination, where he achieved the rank of IAS in his fourth attempt.
In his previous attempts, Pandey had secured ranks 106, 330, and 290. Notably, he scored 711/1750 in the written examination and 229/500 in public administration, which were key contributors to his success. Initially, he served as an IAS officer in the AGMUT cadre and held the position of Director of the Information and Public Relations Department in Jammu and Kashmir. Later, he joined the UP cadre through inter-cadre deputation, and prior to his appointment in Hathras, he was the collector of Hamirpur district.

Hathras, which had been in the spotlight due to the recent stampede, now has Rahul Pandey at the helm as the new District Magistrate. His administrative experience and background in both the IPS and IAS services are expected to contribute to better governance and public safety in the district.
