IIT Guwahati Student Found Dead in Hostel Room; Fourth Death This Year

A third-year Computer Science student from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) was found dead in his hostel room on Monday, according to the police. The male student, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, was discovered in his room in the Brahmaputra Hostel. Authorities have launched an investigation, and the body has been sent for a postmortem examination.

This marks the fourth student death at IITG this year. Earlier, on August 9, a female student was allegedly found hanging in her room.

In response to the incident, an IITG spokesperson expressed the institute’s deep sorrow: “IITG is deeply saddened to report the loss of a student from our community. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the student’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.”

The institute emphasized its commitment to student well-being, stating that support and resources are available to help students manage challenges. “We encourage our student community to reach out to our support networks. IITG remains dedicated to prioritizing the mental health and well-being of our student community during these challenging times.”
