India Celebrates WorldSkills 2024 Achievements and Paralympic Success

Ghaziabad, Oct 24, 2024: Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, recognized India’s WorldSkills 2024 medalists at a recent ceremony in Ghaziabad, highlighting India’s growing strength in skill development. Team India secured four bronze medals and 12 Medallions of Excellence at the competition held in Lyon, France, achieving a significant milestone in its pursuit of becoming a global skill capital.

In his speech, Shri Chaudhary applauded the team’s achievements, stating, “Our performance at WorldSkills Lyon 2024 with 16 accolades, including four bronze medals, reflects India’s potential to meet the highest global standards. With a skilled workforce now essential to industry, these accomplishments reinforce India’s robust skilling ecosystem under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.”

Among the winners, Team India excelled in fields such as Patisserie and Confectionery, Industry 4.0, Hotel Reception, and Renewable Energy. The bronze medalists included Ashwitha Police, Dhrumil Kumar Dhirendra Kumar Gandhi, Sathyajith Balakrishnan, Joethir Adithya Krishnapriya Ravikumar, and Amaresh Kumar Sahu. Competing against over 70 countries, India’s success demonstrated the country’s commitment to skill advancement through expert training and industry support.

Recognition and Cash Awards
Shri Chaudhary awarded cash prizes of INR 6 lakh each to the four bronze medalists and INR 2 lakh each to the trainers. Additionally, the 12 Medallion of Excellence recipients received INR 2 lakh each, and their trainers received INR 1 lakh each, acknowledging their dedication and hard work.

Honoring Paralympic Achievements
The event also honored eight Paralympic winners, including athletes Praveen Kumar, Ajit Singh Yadav, Sharad Kumar, Pranav Soorma, Simran Sharma, Rubina Francis, Rakesh Kumar, and Preethi Pal. Ms. Preethi Pal, who earned India’s first para-athletics medal with a bronze in the women’s 100m T35 race at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, was celebrated as a brand ambassador for the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). Veteran Paralympian and Paralympic Committee of India President, Sh. Devendra Jhajharia, graced the event as the guest of honor.

Paving the Path Forward
Shri Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, praised the team’s focus and composure under intense competition. “Witnessing the skill, dedication, and resilience shown by the Indian delegation at Lyon filled us with immense pride,” Tiwari remarked. He emphasized that these achievements reflect India’s commitment to excellence on the global stage.

NSDC CEO Ved Mani Tiwari praised the industry partners like Suzuki, Exalta, and NTTF, which played crucial roles in preparing the Indian delegation. He noted, “India achieving 13th rank globally across 52 skills signifies a milestone in becoming a global hub for skilled talent. We aim to further refine our approach to ensure our youth excel consistently in future competitions.”

India’s achievements in WorldSkills 2024 underscore its rising leadership in global skills, driving excellence across both traditional and emerging fields.
