Sanjeev Raina, a dedicated officer with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), has been appointed as the Additional Director General (ADG) for the India-China Line of Actual Control (LAC) Security Force. Notably, he is only the second non-Indian Police Service (IPS) officer to hold this position.
Raina’s journey began when he joined the ITBP as an Assistant Commandant in November 1987, after training at the ITBP Academy in Mussoorie. His career started with a posting in the Indo-China border area of Ladakh, followed by roles including Deputy Commandant, Second in Command, Commandant, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG), and Inspector General (IG).
Originally from Jammu and Kashmir, Raina later moved to Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, where he completed his graduate and post-graduate degrees in Economics from Jiwaji University. His recent promotion to ADG was announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs for the 2024 panel year, alongside IG Jaspal Singh.
Currently stationed at ITBP’s central sector in Bhopal, Raina will begin his new role at the Western Command headquarters in Chandigarh. He was also instrumental in establishing the Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School (CIJWS) in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, which trains officers for deployment in Naxal-affected areas.
