Kanpur University, officially known as Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), has introduced a special measure for final year students who have failed in one subject. The university has decided to conduct special back papers in August to ensure that students do not lose an academic year and can proceed with their further studies or job applications. This initiative is set to benefit approximately 35,000 students across undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
Dr. Rakesh Kumar, the Controller of Examinations at CSJMU, announced that this decision came after requests from the university and affiliated colleges. The special back paper will allow students to clear their pending subject without the usual delays associated with back papers, which often affect their ability to apply for jobs or pursue further education on time. By passing these special back papers, students will be eligible for postgraduate admissions and competitive exams, including PhD programs.
In addition to this significant development, Kanpur University has recently achieved the prestigious Category 1 status from the University Grants Commission (UGC), following its A+ grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). This new status provides CSJMU with increased autonomy to introduce new courses, establish additional centers beyond the main campus, and conduct research partnerships without needing UGC approval, enhancing its academic and administrative flexibility.
