The Karnataka Higher Education Department has decided to allocate 15 minutes from each hour of regular class time in colleges for internal assessment purposes. This step aims to enhance the quality of higher education across the state.

Dr. CN Ashwath Narayana, Karnataka’s Higher Education Minister, announced this decision during the inauguration of supplementary programs under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He emphasized that 45 minutes will be dedicated to teaching, with the remaining 15 minutes utilized for internal assessment during each hour-long class.

In addition, the minister highlighted that internal assessment marks for engineering courses have been increased to 50 marks per subject and similar enhancements will be introduced for other degree programs. Moreover, the department plans to provide offline training to 2000 teachers annually at the Higher Education Academy in Dharwad, with an additional 10,000 teachers receiving online training.

Furthermore, collaboration with institutions like Infosys’ Mysuru campus and universities in Gulbarga and Mysuru will further bolster teacher training efforts, ensuring continuous professional development among educators in the state’s higher education sector.
