The Kota City police have apprehended Akhilesh Kumar Singh (32), a key suspect in the Delhi Police recruitment exam scam, who had been evading arrest for two years. According to Kota City SP Amrita Duhan, Singh, a native of Jamui district in Bihar and a current resident of Delhi’s Rohini, was arrested on Saturday in Haryana’s Jind district. He was wanted in connection with a case involving forged documents and was also a suspect in another case under investigation by the Kota police.
Singh, along with an accomplice Himanshu Rathore, allegedly forged signatures of an official from Kota’s Messrs Om Kothari Foundation in 2020. They used the falsified documents to have the foundation’s premises approved as an online examination centre for the Delhi Police recruitment exam.
The scam came to light in 2022, following a Delhi Police Crime Branch investigation. It was revealed that the computers at the exam centre in Kota were remotely connected to members of the gang in Delhi, who would solve the exam papers on behalf of the candidates. Several individuals have already been arrested by the Delhi Police in relation to the scam.
The investigation into the involvement of others in the forgery and exam manipulation is ongoing.
