The Laredo College (LC) Golf for Education tournament returned for its second year, drawing over 100 golfers to the Casa Blanca Golf Course for a day of friendly competition and philanthropy. The event, which LC hailed as a “resounding success,” brought together volunteers, sponsors, and golf enthusiasts, all rallying behind the cause of supporting students and vital college initiatives.
“Our Golf for Education tournament has quickly become a staple fundraiser for Laredo College, thanks to the participation of our community sponsors, volunteers, and friends,” said Dr. Diana Ortiz, LC Vice President of Institutional Advancement. She extended special thanks to her co-chair, Diana Espinoza, and the event’s in-kind sponsors for their support in managing the behind-the-scenes logistics.
Cash prizes were awarded to the top three teams, with first place going to the Laredo Federal Credit Union team, consisting of Juan J. Gomez Jr., Anthony Gomez, and Daniel Gomez, who received $3,000. Second place and $2,000 went to Leyendecker Construction Inc.’s team of Rourke Melendez, Rick Garza, and Rene Rangel, while third place, worth $1,000, was claimed by the Estrella Provider Services, LLC team of Jose C. Gonzalez, Joey Gamez III, and Adrian Vera.
Funds raised through the tournament will go toward scholarships and support for key college initiatives. LC encourages those interested in contributing to the college’s mission to reach out to its Development Office.
This year’s tournament took place on September 28, 2024, at the Casa Blanca Golf Course.
