The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has released a notice detailing the normalisation process that will be used to prepare the results for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) PG 2024. The NEET PG 2024 exam is scheduled to take place tomorrow, August 11.

The normalisation process adopted by NBEMS is similar to the method used by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, for its various examinations, including the Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test (INI-CET). According to the official notice, the NEET PG 2024 scores will be calculated using this normalisation technique.

The process involves calculating percentile scores, which are considered the normalised scores for the examination. To avoid bunching and to resolve ties between candidates, the percentile scores will be computed to seven decimal places. The highest score achieved in each shift will be assigned a percentile of 100, representing the top performance among all candidates in that shift. This ensures that each top scorer receives a percentile of 100 within their respective group or shift, allowing for a clear distinction between applicants across different exam shifts.

This notice from NBEMS follows a recent Supreme Court decision to dismiss a petition seeking the postponement of NEET PG 2024. The petitioners had raised concerns about travel difficulties to the exam centres and requested that candidates be informed of the normalisation process to ensure fairness in the selection process.
