Date: July 20, 2024
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the results for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2024, which can now be accessed city and centre-wise on the official NTA NEET website. This year, around 23 lakh students participated in the exam.
Key Points:
- Result Format: The results have been published in PDF format, with students’ identities masked as directed by the Supreme Court.
- Supreme Court Directive: Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud instructed the NTA to upload the marks by July 20 at noon, ensuring student identities remain confidential. The results should be displayed in relation to each exam centre separately.
- Upcoming Hearing: The Supreme Court, comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Misra, will continue hearing the NEET paper leak matter on July 22, Monday, after 10.30 am.
- Court Observations: The Supreme Court noted that any order for re-examination would require substantial evidence showing that the integrity of the entire exam was compromised on a large scale.
- Investigation Updates:
- Arrests: So far, 63 individuals have been taken into custody, including 18 arrests made by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Among those arrested are four students from AIIMS Patna, accused of being exam “solvers”.
- Malpractice Scale: The CBI’s investigation suggests that the scale of malpractice is smaller than initially anticipated, affecting fewer than 150 students. The Patna-Hazaribagh case is the primary incident with evidence of question paper theft, impacting only one exam centre.
The detailed city and centre-wise result publication aims to ensure transparency and identify any patterns or anomalies that might indicate widespread malpractice. The upcoming Supreme Court hearing will further address concerns about the exam’s integrity and determine any necessary actions.
