A nursery student in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, was suspended from a private school after allegedly bringing non-vegetarian food in his lunchbox, triggering a viral social media debate. The incident came to light through a video filmed by the student’s mother, which showed a heated exchange between her and the school principal.
In the video, the principal accused the Muslim student of bringing non-vegetarian food and discussing religious conversions, claiming the child said, “We don’t want to teach such kids with such morals, who will demolish our temples and bring non-vegetarians to school.” Despite the mother’s denial, the principal maintained that the child admitted to the actions, and blamed the student’s upbringing for such behavior.
The mother refuted the allegations, arguing that her 7-year-old child could not comprehend such complex religious matters, accusing the school of discriminatory practices. She further alleged that students frequently engage in debates about Hindu-Muslim issues at school. The principal, however, stood by the decision, citing complaints from other parents.
Following the video’s spread, Amroha Police and the District Inspector of Schools (DIS) became involved. A three-member inquiry team has been formed to investigate the incident and determine further action, according to reports by India Today.
