OP Jindal Global University to Inaugurate India’s First Constitution Museum

OP Jindal Global University is set to inaugurate “The Constitution Academy and The Rights & Freedoms Museum” on November 26, 2024, marking a significant milestone in commemorating the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution. This unique museum, hailed as India’s first Constitution museum, aims to make the Indian Constitution accessible to a wider audience.

Museum Highlights:

  • Focus on the Indian Constitution: The museum explores various sections of the Indian Constitution, highlighting their significance. It features profiles of Constituent Assembly members, along with the debates and deliberations that shaped the final document.
  • Multimedia Experience: Visitors can engage with the content through various formats, including textual, audio-visual, and experiential exhibits. The museum showcases original handcrafted pieces from the Constitution and artwork inspired by it.
  • Children’s Corner: A dedicated section for children includes interactive installations, quizzing stations, graphic pamphlets, and novels designed to educate young minds about the Constitution.
  • Expert Archive: The museum also houses an archive of expert interviews focusing on the evolution of fundamental rights guaranteed to Indian citizens.

Leadership and Vision:

Anjchita B Nair, CEO of Culture and Head of the Centre for Museums at OP Jindal Global University, explains the museum’s mission: “The idea behind the museum is to make the Constitution accessible to wider audiences. The focus is on understanding the intent of the makers of the Constitution and appreciating the journey we have undertaken in the last 75 years.”

Naveen Jindal, the founding chancellor of the university, emphasizes the museum’s significance, stating, “The Constitution Academy and the Rights and Freedoms Museum is a dedication to our journey of becoming united as a nation under the Constitution of India. With the establishment of the Academy and the Museum, we reaffirm our belief in our collective strength, creating history together as a nation.”

Professor C Raj Kumar, founding vice chancellor of OP Jindal Global University, adds, “Our vision for this museum is to showcase the making and the makers of the Indian Constitution, including the Constituent Assembly members who created this document, ordinary citizens who sought their constitutional rights, lawmakers who initiated essential amendments, as well as lawyers and judges responsible for landmark judgments that have shaped modern India.”

This museum is poised to become a landmark institution, educating citizens of all ages about the foundational principles of Indian democracy and the ongoing journey of the nation under its Constitution.
