A coordinator in the Raigad Zilla Parishad’s primary education department has been arrested for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 40,000 to release the salaries of four teachers. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) reported that the 47-year-old accused, who also served as a deputy teacher at a primary school in Jatade, Panvel, made this demand for the June and July salaries of the teachers working in Zilla Parishad schools.

The situation came to light when one of the teachers lodged a complaint with the ACB’s Raigad unit. Initially, a trap was set on September 4, but the accused received a tip-off and did not accept the bribe at that time. ACB officials successfully laid another trap on Wednesday at Khalapur Phata on the old Mumbai-Pune highway, where the accused was caught red-handed accepting the bribe.

A case has been registered against him under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The investigation continues as authorities address the corruption within the education sector.
