Following the footsteps of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), the Railways has now made Aadhaar card verification compulsory for candidates applying for Railway jobs. As per a notice issued by the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), all applicants for positions within the RRB, Government Railway Police (GRP), and Railway Protection Force (RPF) must undergo Aadhaar verification. The GRP and RPF are responsible for maintaining law and order on Indian Railways, with distinct roles and responsibilities.

The RRB has advised candidates to authenticate their identity through Aadhaar while applying for various Centralised Employment Notices (CEN). Aadhaar verification is expected to streamline the examination process, making it easier for applicants to enter examination centers and simplifying subsequent procedures.

For candidates who applied for RRB recruitment in 2024 using documents other than Aadhaar, such as a driving license, passport, PAN card, or voter ID, there is an option to verify their Aadhaar identity through the RRB website at www.rrbapply.gov.in. The RRB clarified that this Aadhaar verification is a one-time process, and once completed, it will be valid for all future job applications.

Key Points from the RRB Notice:

  1. RRBs will not store or share Aadhaar details with third parties or use them for any purpose other than those specified in the respective CENs.
  2. Applicants should rely solely on official RRB websites for updates on the recruitment process and avoid unauthenticated sources.
  3. Candidates are cautioned against fraudulent individuals who may offer false promises of securing jobs. The RRB emphasizes that the recruitment process is fully computerized, and selection is based purely on merit.

The adoption of Aadhaar-based verification by the Railways follows the UPSC’s similar measure, implemented after the Puja Khedkar controversy. Khedkar’s candidature was canceled by the UPSC in July due to allegations of cheating and misuse of the OBC and disability quotas.
