A Sikh student was assaulted and had his turban forcibly removed by a group of students during a clash at Sri Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, part of Delhi University. The incident occurred on Saturday, just days before the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections scheduled for September 27. A video of the attack, which has gone viral on social media, shows a student wearing a red turban being dragged, kicked, and assaulted until his turban fell to the ground during the scuffle.

An FIR has been filed at the Maurice Nagar police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). According to police reports, Pavit Singh Gujral, a second-year student, claimed he was attacked while participating in the nomination process for the DUSU elections.

In his FIR, Singh stated, “They forcibly removed my turban, beat me, and pulled my kesh (hair). I was attacked by the group, and I do not feel safe in the college. I feel that my life is at risk.” A senior police officer confirmed that teams have been formed to apprehend the attackers.

As of now, the college administration has not released a statement regarding the incident.
