In a significant move towards standardizing education across various school boards in India, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has proposed a new assessment structure that will evaluate students’ performance from class IX to class XII in their final board results. The recently submitted report, titled Establishing Equivalence across Education Boards, outlines how cumulative performance across these grades will be integrated, along with a stronger emphasis on vocational and skill-based subjects.
The proposal includes recommendations such as assigning weightage to class IX, X, and XI performances in the class XII results, mandating skill-based subjects, and introducing a credit-based learning system to support inter-board mobility. The initiative is part of a broader effort to align educational practices with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), promoting a more holistic and equitable approach to student evaluation and skill development across the country.
