On Thursday, the Supreme Court directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to publish the NEET-UG exam scores, but without revealing the identities of the students. The court’s order instructs the central agency to release the marks on their website, categorized city-wise and centre-wise, while masking the candidates’ identities. The results are scheduled to be uploaded by 5 pm tomorrow, as reported by Live Law.
The Chief Justice of India (CJI) noted concerns about leaks at certain centres, specifically Patna and Hazaribag, where question papers had been disseminated. The court aims to determine if the issue was isolated to these centres or more widespread. “Students are handicapped because they don’t know the results. We want the student’s identity to be masked but let us see centre-wise what was the mark pattern,” the CJI was quoted as saying.
The CJI emphasized that student identities should remain confidential, suggesting the use of dummy roll numbers to prevent any disclosure. The Supreme Court is considering these measures while hearing a series of petitions related to the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak case.
The bench, including Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, Justice J B Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Misra, addressed the issue during the hearing.
Advocate Hooda raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest due to the IIT Madras director’s membership on the NTA’s governing board, questioning the reliability of the data analysis report from the institute.
As of now, 131 students are requesting a retest, while 254 are opposed to it, according to the Solicitor General.
In the ongoing investigation into the NEET-UG exam irregularities, the CBI has questioned four AIIMS Patna students, including three third-year MBBS students and one second-year student. These students were brought in from their hostel rooms, with senior faculty members informed of their involvement in the probe.
