In a rapidly evolving educational landscape, the 2024 Annual Student Quest Survey, conducted by IC3 Institute and FLAME University, has unveiled significant insights into the role of AI in career guidance. With responses from over 2,200 students from classes 9 to 12 and 35,656 counsellors across 56 countries, the survey offers essential data to bridge the gaps in existing counselling practices.
AI Tools Revolutionizing Career Guidance for Students
The survey reveals that 85% of students are using AI tools, such as ChatGPT, for career guidance, while 40% have never interacted with a career counsellor. The use of AI is particularly prominent in India, where 62% of counsellors are incorporating AI into their practices, with 74% believing that these tools can enhance and automate the counselling process.
For students, AI tools are being used for various tasks, including essay writing, career research, and university selection. However, the survey also highlights significant challenges in the counselling process, such as lengthy application processes and a lack of personalized feedback, underscoring the need for more efficient and student-centered approaches.
The report emphasizes the importance of initiating career discussions early, with ages 12 to 14 being identified as the optimal time to start. Despite the growing reliance on AI, the lack of formal counselling support in many schools points to an urgent need for comprehensive, school-wide counselling programs that combine both personalized guidance and technological integration.
