A tragic incident occurred in Bihar’s Nalanda district, where a girl died, and at least nine students fell ill after allegedly consuming contaminated water at a school. The Nalanda district administration reported that the deceased was not a student at the school; she had visited to meet her friends when the incident occurred.
According to Nalanda District Magistrate Shashank Shubhankar, the students began experiencing symptoms like vomiting and stomach pain after drinking water from the RO system installed on the school premises on Monday. The affected students were rushed to the nearest government hospital, but unfortunately, the visiting girl died during treatment. The condition of the nine ill students is reportedly improving.
The incident took place at Kasturba Gandhi Girls School in Nalanda district. Initial investigations suggest that the students may have fallen ill due to drinking water from the RO system, which was not being properly maintained. The district administration has sent water samples for scientific analysis to confirm the cause.
In response to the incident, the District Magistrate has ordered the registration of an FIR against the school warden, who has been suspended for dereliction of duty. Strict departmental action is expected to follow. Additionally, the police have sent ‘viscera samples’ of the deceased for chemical examination to further investigate the cause of death.
