Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Saturday that the state has seen a significant increase in the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) of girl students in higher education. During the 2024-25 academic year, 37,450 girl students enrolled in general degree colleges, surpassing the 35,800 boy students. Similarly, in the previous academic year (2023-24), more girls (35,650) enrolled in degree colleges compared to their male counterparts.

Speaking at the platinum jubilee celebration of Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya in Unakoti district, CM Saha highlighted the government’s initiatives, including the provision of free education for girls up to the college level since 2022. He credited these efforts, along with the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign, for the rise in female enrollment. Additional measures include 33% reservation for women in government jobs, the installation of ‘pink toilets’, and 50% reservation for women in government-run stalls.

Saha attributed the success to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP), which has been adopted in Tripura’s colleges. The CM also discussed the introduction of the ‘Lakshya’ scheme, aimed at helping students prepare for competitive exams like UPSC, and the upcoming establishment of Dhamma Dipa University in Sabroom, as well as progress on Techno India University and Aryavart International University.

He further emphasized the government’s commitment to making Tripura an educational hub, citing the rapid establishment of a dental college, nursing colleges, and other institutions as examples of the state’s educational development.
